330 shops sealed on 11th day, 3894 sealed till now

New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) With political activity in Delhi for the issuance of an Ordinance to stop the sealing of shops in residential areas gaining momentum - the Congress leaders threatening to resign and the BJP continuing with its 'jail bharo' protests- the MCD operation seems to be fast losing steam! The eleventh day of the sealing operation saw just 330 shops being put to seal. With today's sealing, a total of 3894 shops in the residential areas have been sealed since the operation began on March 29.

The maximum number of 54 shops were sealed in the Civil Lines area followed by 52 in the Shahadara (South), 50 in the Sadar Paharganj area, 40 in the Karol Bagh area, 35 in central Zone and 34 in Najafgarh.

Of the 3894 shops sealed till now, the maximum number of 795 shops have been sealed in the Karol Bagh area, followed by 492 in Civil lines, 454 in Rohini, 424 in Central zone, 311 in Najafgarh, 309 in South and 259 in West.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected Mayor of Delhi Farhad Suri today expressed the hope that the crisis due to sealing of shops would be resolved soon given the Centre's statement that it would approach the court to halt the sealing operation.

As a last ditch effort to halt the ongoing sealing and demolition operations, several Municipal councillors from Delhi have threatened to resign from their posts if the Delhi Government and the Centre did not urgently come out with an Ordinance or a Bill.

Nine Congress MLAs from the Outer Delhi Assembly segment recently threatened to wage a "decisive battle" if no decision was taken in the matter by the Government.

The MLAs met Lieutenant Governor B L Joshi and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday to immediately put a stop to the sealing and demolition drives in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the BJP continues with its 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan' to protest the sealing in Delhi.
