3,000 year-old human skeletons excavated in UP

Pilibhit, Apr 12 (UNI) Excavations at a mound in the Biralpur tehsil here have led to the discovery of two human skeletons believed to be 3,000 years old.

Archaelogical Department sources said here today the discovery has been made by a team of Ancient History Department of Ruhelkhand University, Barielly, working under an ASI project.

The team led by Prof Uday Prakash Arora and Dr Anup Ranjan, discovered the skeletons while excavation on the mound in Abhaipur village.

Out of the two skeletons, while one was believed to be that of an adult, the other was remains of a minor, sources added. Their sex and exact age could be determined after more tests.

Remains of old coal and earthen vessels have also been found at the spot. Further study about the death and gender of the two skeletons will be conducted by Prof M Limbe, an expert from Pune, sources said.

In 2001, charcoal discovered from the same mound was later found to be 1100 year old by the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow sources added.

Ancient History experts and archaelogical fraternity are excited over the treasured find, which is likely to help delve much deeper into other mysteries of ancient civilisations.
