18 poll related cases registered in UT: Police officer

Pondicherry, Apr 12 (UNI) Police have registered 18 election related cases from the time of commencement of election process in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, Additional Senior Superintedent of Police B Srikanth said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said three cases were booked under the Disfigurement Act, three for loud speaker offences, five under the Representation of Peoples Act and the rest under IPC and special cases.

The process of execution of non-bailable warrents were on and so far 350 to 400 warrents were executed. Only 18 cases were pending which was under process, he said adding that out of the 155 licenced arms in Pondicherry, 136 had been surrendered with the police stations. The police have allowed licence arms for banks to use for security reasons.

Mr Srikanth said Central forces sought for the elections would reach Pondicherry after April 20.

He also said that a vigorous training was imparted to all police personnel in connection with the elections.
