143 nominations filed for third phase polls

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 12 (UNI) A total of 143 nomination papers were filed for the third phase of polls, when the last date for filing nominations closed today in Kerala.

Thirty two nominations were filed from Kannur district and 44 from Kasargode today.

In the third phase, these two districts would go the polls on May 3.

Scrutiny of papers would take place tomorrow and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 17.

A total of 409 candidates are in the fray for the first phase and as many as 437 candidates for the second phase.

The elections in the state are being held in three phases. In the first phase 59 constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram, kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Kottayam districts would go to the polls on April 22. The second phase on April 29 will see elections in 66 constituencies in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts.

The counting of votes would take place on May 11.
