1300 digital cameras for booths in North 24 Pgs

Bararsat, Apr 12 (UNI) Altogether 1300 digital cameras will be installed in different booths of North 24 Parganas during polling slated on April 27, district election officer Manoj Pant said today.

Election Commission had taken several measures to arrest the menace of rigging, Mr Pant said.

Though updating of voters' list continued, Mr Pant announced that 5,13,744 electorate, including 8257 service voters would exercise their franchise for the 28 seats in North 24 Parganas, while 156 candidates were declared valid for the contest.

In all, 5709 booths would be installed, covering an area of 4094 sq km, of which 1020 booths were identified as hyper and highly sensitive and 1941 booths were marked under "B" category.

Incidentally, one of the six candidates of Swarup Nagar, Kanai Mandal (Ind) withdrew his candidature today while nomination papers of Subrata Biswas (ind), a candidate of Bhatpara was rejected.

The district magistrate informed that under trial prisoners can cast their vote through postal ballot.

Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said 250 companies of central para military force and nearly 8500 state police, including 1500 officers will be deployed.
