Yemen President for enhanced defence ties with Pak
Islamabad, Apr 11 (UNI) Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh today termed Pakistan's excellence in defence production as a ''breakthrough'' and said the entire Muslim world is proud of its achievements in this vital area.
Talking to newsmen after visiting Heavy Industries, which manufactures state-of-the-art Al-Khalid and Al-Zarar tanks, he said products of heavy industries are of high quality and can compete with the European, American and Russian defence equipments.
He particularly appreciated the latest version of Al-Khalid tank and said it is not less than latest Russian and American tanks in any way.
Mr Saleh, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit, urged the Muslim countries to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in the field of defence.
He said Pakistan has achieved latest technology in defence production and Muslim countries must benefit greatly from Pakiastan's achievement.
Mr Saleh said his country is desirous of enhanced defence cooperation with Pakistan and will enter into defence production purchase deals with this country.
Earlier, Managing Director of the Heavy Indusries, Lt General Israr Ahmad Ghumman briefed the visiting dignitary on the structure and production capability of the Industries.
Mr Ghumman informed the Yemeni President that HIT plays a vital role in the defence production and ensure country's heavy reliance in the field of defence.
He was also informed that the HIT has indigenously manufactured Al-Khalid and Al-Zarar tanks and state of art surface-to-air carrier missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, command vehicles, battle field management command system, bullet proof security vehicles, besides other heavy and light defence equipments and ammunition.
He was informed that besides fulfilling the demand of Pakistan army, its equipment is also being exported to other countries.
Mr Saleh also took a round of the factory and showed a keen interest in the products displayed, particularly in Al-Khalid tank and bullet proof security vehicle ''Muhafiz''.
