Wheat procurement picksup in Haryana
Chandigarh, Apr 11 (UNI) Wheat arrivals in Haryana have begun to pickup with the government agencies purchasing 7.10 lakh metric tonnes of the grain till yesterday evening, which was more than 90 per cent of the total arrival.
While stating this here today, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan said the Food and Supplies Department had procured 1.62 metric tonnes of wheat, Hafed 2.36 lakh metric tonnes, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation that of 82,889 metric tonnes, Food Corporation of India-89,515 metric tonnes, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 41,542 metric tonnes and CONFED bought 54,845 metric tonnes.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Food and Supplies portfolio, said Karnal district was leading in procurement of wheat with 1.57 lakh metric tonnes followed by Kaithal with 1.49 lakh metric tonnes, Kurukshetra (1.10 lakh metric tonnes), Fethabad 50,022 metric tonnes and Sirsa 47,263 metric tonnes of wheat.
Mr Mohan said the state government had fixed the share of wheat to be purchased by six procuring agencies.
He said as many as 352 mandis had been set up in the state for the smooth procurement of wheat and a target of procurement of 42 lakh tonnes wheat had been fixed.
