UPDS leader shot dead in Asom

Diphu, Apr 11 (UNI) UPDS 'defence' secretary Thong Teron was shot dead in the wee hours today by alleged Congress supporters in Satgaon area under Baithalangso police station in Hamren subdivision of Karbi Anglong district.

Official sources here said about 200 Congress supporters, led by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Executive Member (EM) Singh Teron, attacked the house of the United People's Democratic Society (UPDS) leader at about 0100 hours and damaged it.

On hearing of the attack Thong, who was not at home, rushed to the site. On reaching, he was dragged out of his car by the alleged supporters of Singh and shot him at point blank range.

A Congress worker was also injured in the firing.

The UPDS is a militant organization of the state which is in cease fire with the Centre.
