Rodrigues condoles deaths in Meerut fire

Chandigarh, Apr 11 (UNI) Punjab Governor Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues has expressed profound grief over the loss of life and property in a tragic fire incident at Meerut last evening.

Expresing his sympathies with members of the bereaved families, General Rodrigues offered all help in terms of extending medical assistance to the affected people in Chandigarh hospitals.

Meanwhile, Rodrigues asked senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and other social, commercial and religious organisations to ensure that all fire-fighting precautions were in place, during fairs, festivals and other events organised on different occasions. He emphasised that all fire safety measures provided under the Fire Act must be adhered to meticulously, to cover every kind of risk.

Emphasising the need for fire sfety education, in collaboration with communities at the local level, General Rodrigues said all agencies in the public and private sector must also adopt a systematic approach to focus on the prevention of fires and to create a multi-disciplinary service to cover every aspects of fire safety.
