PMK volunteers ransack MDMK office

Karur (Tamil Nadu), Apr 11: The Karur District Office of the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) was ransacked allegedy by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) volunteers late last night.

Police said trouble began when MDMK men held a demonstration before the PMK office here demanding apology from its Secretary Bhaskaran for the 'derogatory' remarks made by him against MDMK General Secretary Vaiko at a recent party meeting.

MDMK activists dispersed peacefully after police intervention.

Later, armed with lethal weapons, the PMK volunteers led by Bhaskaran stormed the MDMK office and ransacked it.

Two MDMK men inside the office managed to escape unhurt.

Tension prevailed when MDMK men along with AIADMK volunteers held a 'road roko' demanding the immediate arrest of Bhaskaran and his men who were involved in the attack.

After intervention from party functionaries, the MDMK men withdrew the agitation in the early hours of today. Police pickets were posted in sensitive areas.

Police have registered cases against Bhaskaran and his men under vaious sections of the IPC following a complaint from the MDMK.

The PMK volunteers also filed a complaint against MDMK men and cases registered.
