One shot dead, Waithou people protest to oppose security camp

Imphal, Apr 11 (UNI) A man was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants at Chairen Thongkhong in Imphal East last night, police said today.

The body was removed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for psotmortem.

Meanwhile, tension brewed at Waithou in Thoubal district as people protested the move to open an Assam Rifles post in the area.

The locals had blocked the roads and staged dharna in which about seven people were injured when police dispersed them.

The Joint Action Committee of Waithou Tangjeng Ching Kanba Lup said they would oppose the decision of opening a military camp amid civilian area.

The Committee has also informed the chief minister about its decision.
