Srinagar, Apr 11 (UNI) A Jammu and Kashmir government official died due to snow avalanche in Gurez-Bandipora belt of Baramulla district while six others were rescued by the Army today.

Official sources said a group of officials of the state Agriculture Department were caught in a snow avalanche while on the way to Bandipora from border area of Gurez.

While some of them managed to reach Bandipora, six went missing on way.

The sources said the officials who reached Bandipora then informed the higher authorities of their missing colleagues.

The administration then sought the Army's help and a search operation was launched to locate the employees, they added.

The sources said the Army immediately pressed the helicopters into service, but could not locate the missing officials.

Later, foot patrolling parties were rushed to different areas to trace them.

The teams managed to rescue six employees, but could not save one official who died in the avalanche, the sources said.
