On board storage capacity dawns new phase in transhipment

Vasco (Goa), Apr 11 (UNI) Goa chief minister Pratap Shinh Rane today, formally launched the country's first floating port 'M V Goan Pride' at the Marmugaon port trust.

Commissioned by Salgaoncar&Dempo Brothers Pvt Ltd, two leading business houses from Goa, Katra Wilhemsen group has initiated a new concept in the transhipment business, where the port moves to the ship and not vice-versa.

Speaking to UNI, on the feasibility of the concept for Mumbai, Dempo Chairman, Shrinivas V Dempo said, ''although the concept is feasible for all the shallow draft ports, - which is normally the case with most Indian ports, including Mumbai - Salgaonkar and Dempo, has currently focussed only on Goa, but has plans to enter into customised solution provision for different projects on east-coast and Gujarat which have minor bulk ports.
