Oil thieves arrested
Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) Police have arrested seven people for allegedly pilfering petroleum products from tankers at the Bombay Port Trust.
The seven were arrested yesterday after police received information that a gang was involved in siphoning off petroleum products from tankers at the BPT in Sewri here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhananjay Kamlakar told reporters here today that the Crime Intellegence Unit (CIU) had received information about a gang which was involved in stealing petroleum products at BPT.
The gang was involved in selling the petroleum products after adulteration.
The arrested have been identified as Irfan Abdul Baig (21), Afzal Ahmed Ansari (22), Mohammed Farooq Sheikh (26), John Mohammed Khan (23), Mohammed Usman Sheikh (45), Suresh Sakharam Vichare (43) and Naresh Kumar Jaiswal (21).
Mr Kamlakar said four tankers carrying furnishing oil worth Rs 35.11 lakh have been seized from the arrested.
The seven have been booked under the Essential Commodities Act.
They were produced before a metropolitan court here today which remanded them in police custody till Thursday.
