Militants abduct trader in Asom
Silchar, Apr 11 (UNI) Suspected Bru (Reang) militants abducted a trader from Garmora of Hailakandi district in south Asom today.
Police said a group of seven militants in army fatigue and carrying foreign-made guns entered the shop and abducted the trader at gunpoint.
The militants fired some rounds in the air to scare the villagers. However, none was injured.
Police from Jamira outpost rushed to the spot after hearing the incident.
Hailakandi SP Anand Mohan Tiwari along with a posse of armed forces also rushed there, more than 100 km from the Hailakandi district headquarters.
He said combing operation had been launched in the jungle areas near Assam-Mizoram border to nab the miscreants and rescue the trader.
He said it was yet to be ascertained which group was responsible for the incident and added that there was no report of demand for ransom till now.
