Mahavir Jayanti celebrated in Manipur
Imphal, Apr 11 (UNI) Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, was celebrated with religious fervour in Manipur.
Festoons carrying the messages of non-violence were put up on the roads.
Followers of Mahavir thronged to the Jain temple to offer prayers.
State Governor Dr S S Sidhu in a message said that an outstanding apostle of peace and non-violence, Lord Mahavira wished to build a new world order based on equality of mankind cutting across the barriers of caste, creed and religion.
''We should pledge to follow the spiritual and ethical precepts which are an essential features of this festival. Let us dedicate ourselves to the ideals, principles and eternal values espoused by him. Only then, celebration of Mahavira jayanti will be meaningful,'' he added.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the teachings of Lord Mahavira were that of peace, non-violence and forgiveness.
