Indonesia March crude exports fall 14 pct

Written by: Staff

JAKARTA, Apr 11 (Reuters) Indonesia's crude oil exports fell by 14.1 percent to 314,400 barrels per day (bpd) in March from 366,000 bpd in February, while imports were down by 21.8 percent to 130,300 bpd, a Mines and Energy Ministry official said on Tuesday.

Indonesia, the Asia-Pacific's only OPEC member, imported 166,600 bpd in February.

''Production has been slowed, which explains the decline in crude exports,'' the official said.

Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina had an unscheduled shutdown at its Balongan refinery on March 17 and restarted it on March 22.

Crude imports were cut back sharply in the second half of 2005 as Jakarta moved to use more of its own crude domestically.

Indonesia imports crude oil for its refineries but exports slightly more, effectively trading its domestic production for crude more suitable to its plants.
