Elder Pharma inks alliance with medical disinfection major
Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) In consonance with its strategy of focussing on emerging segments, Indian pharma major Elder Pharmaceuticals Limited has entered the medical disinfection segment in its bid to expand the business.
The Rs. 375-crore pharma major has inked an alliance with the UK-based M/s Medichem International, a leader in advanced medical disinfection products, to develop, manufacture and market advanced medical biosecurity products in India.
A release issued here today stated that Elder has initially commenced marketing of a spray called Trigene, used for precaution against potential risk from the H5N1 avian flu virus.
The release said that Trigene is effective in containing the spread of bird flu in hospitals, poultry farms, kennels, catteries and other animal habitats and has met with tremendous success since its launch last year, particularly in China.
In view of the excellent response received from a few hospitals in Mumbai, Elder is working out plans to manufacture this and similar other products of Medichem in India at its newly set up US FDA compliant Uttaranchal facility, the release pointed out.
Once it starts manufacturing these products, Elder plans to take them to the medical, laboratory, veterinary, environmental, military and government sectors within the country in the current year and expects to generate a turnover of Rs. 18-20 crore in the first year itself from this business.
Mr. Alok Saxena, Director, Elder Pharmaceuticals, said ''Elder's entry into the medical disinfection sector is a part of its strategy of focussing on emerging segments and manufacturing world-class products in India through in-licenses with global majors.'' UNI JJ ADG VKG1550
