Curfew in Pali over stone pelting at religious procession

Jodhpur, Apr 11 (UNI) Curfew has been imposed in parts of Pali town in Western Rajasthan after tension over stone pelting at a religious procession here today.

The district administration has imposed Section 144 in Pali to bring the situation under control. Curfew has been promulgated in Kotwali Thana area.

According to police sources, there was tension in the town over the flags fixed on the way through which the Mahaveer Jayanti and Barah Wafat processions were supposed to pass.

Some miscreants pelted stones while Mahaveer Jayanti procession was passing through the town. The police and district administration offcials tried to pacify the agitated people but imposed curfew when the situation worsened.

The police said although the situation is under control, there is tension in the area.

About 16 people have been injured in the stone pelting and they have been admitted to the hospital.

Additional forces have been called in from Udaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer to tackle the situation here.
