Criminal gunned down in encounter

Sultanpur, Apr 10 (UNI) Special Operation Group (SOG) sleuths of Uttar Pradesh Police allegedly gunned down a criminal in an encounter near Faizabad-Allahabad bypass here tonight.

Police Superintendent Vijay Bhatia said three motorcycle-borne miscreants had tried to rob a motorcyclist of his vehicle on Rae Bareli-Sultanpur highway.

However, the victim offerred resistence and cried for help forcing the trio to flee the scene.

The fleeing miscreants were spotted by the SOG team, which was returning from Omnagar after a raid.

The cops challenged the criminals and gunned one of them, while the others managed to flee.

The deceased was yet to be identified.
