35 booked for attack on ostracised villager

Rohtak, Apr 11 (UNI) Police have booked 35 residents of Teetoli village in this district of Haryana who attacked the house of a fellow villager, ostracised by a caste panchayat.

The accused had set on fire the household articles of victim, Suresh, for allegedly refusing to follow the directions of the Kundan Khaap Panchayat which had ordered social boycott of his family following the mysterious death of a villager in February last.

Suresh, who had been suspected by the Khap panchayat of killing the villager after getting the deceased's land transferred in his name, had been asked by the panchayat to return the land to his family.

A mob of villagers attacked Suresh's house on Friday as they felt that he was not going to return the land to the deceased's family. They also disconnected the water supply to his house.

Police said a case under section 148, 149 and 436 of the IPC was regisered against 35 persons in this regard at Rohtak Sadar police station.
