New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Congress today clarified that the matter regarding 27 per cent reservation to the OBCs in educational institutions is still premature and said the Government would take any decision on it after knowing all the shades of opinion and after consensus emerges on the issue.

No final decision has been taken as yet and the matter is still before the Cabinet, Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan said talking to media persons here.

She pointed out that HRD Minister Arjun Singh had already explained whatever needed to be explained as regards providing reservation to the OBCs.

As far reservation in the private sector, Ms Natrajan said this found mention in the Congress Manfiesto and the Common Minimum Programme, in which it had been stated that it would be looked into.

The Congress Spokesperson also pointed out that an amendment in the law providing for 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in educational institutions had already been passed by Parliament. Any further explanation on the subject could be given only by the Government spokesman.

Reacting to BSP supremo Maywati's comment describing the reservation move as "tamasha", she said the party totally denies any suggestion describing the exercise as "tamasha". It is grave injustice and disrespect to Parliament which has unanimously passed the Bill to this effect. She pointed out that the issue finds mention in the Common Minimum Programme.
