Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) The CPI(M) manifesto for the May 8 polls to the Tamil Nadu Assembly today promised land reforms and changes in the economic policy that would help generate more employment, as against the current trend of decline in job opportunities.

Releasing the manifesto, CPI(M) Tamil Nadu unit Secretary N Varadharajan said the party would strive for disbursal of wastelands and government poromboke lands to landless agricultural labourers and stop them being parcelled out to big landlords.

The party would take steps to make wastelands cultivable, give a fillip to rural infrastructure, fill up government vacancies, ensure adequate remunerative prices for farmers, procure agri-products from farmers by the government and curb unwanted farm imports.

Mr Varadharajan announced his party would take earnest efforts for waiver of all loans availed of by small and marginal farmers, implement crop insurance scheme and work for retrieval of Dalit lands (Panchami lands).

The party would also work for a negotiated settlement for the vexatious Cauvery dispute in a manner protecting the interests of the farmers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The party would make all efforts to ensure implementation of the Supreme Court order on Mullaiperiyar Dam, work for protecting the interests of workers in the unorganised sector and prevent commercialisation of education.
