New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) The Centre will seek more time from court to resolve problems related to illegal constructions and commercial activity in residential areas, Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said today, expressing solidarity with shopkeepers, traders and residents up in arms over the MCD's ongoing drives in the capital.

Asking aggrieved citizens not to panic, he said the Government was trying to resolve the issue at the earliest. If needed, efforts would be made to bring an Ordinance and, if required, amend the law, he added.

The Minister was speaking after a function marking the inauguration of flyovers and underpass on Palam Road connecting Dwarka with South Delhi.

He said the problems of Delhi had accentuated over the years due to a high influx of population to the capital. Though the court orders were in good spirit, sealing and demolition work could be carried out to a certain extent only since it would otherwise severely affect normal life in the city.
