Pvt buses, mini buses join Blue line in notoriety

New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) True Blue line buses are the biggest killers on Delhi roads but private buses are close second, and in fact injure much more people on city streets than any other category of buses.

Blue line buses mowed 107 people in 2004, 145 in 2005 and 11 till February 15 this year while private buses running on contract or charted routes were responsible for the deaths of 139 people in 2004, 78 in 2005 and ten till this February 15, official figures reveal.

Delhi Transport Corp came next accounting for 57 deaths in 2004, 54 in 2005 and nine till February 15 this year. The Surprise package was 'mini' buses, which despite their size, killed 29 people in 2004, 56 in 2005 and one till this February 15.

However, when it came to causing the most number of accidents and injuring people, private buses were clear 'winner' with 'deadly' mini buses 'hot' on their heals, relegating the 'undisputed leader' blue line buses to the third spot.

Private buses injured 594 people in 2004, 477 in 2005 and 33 till February 15 this year. Mini buses injured 262 people in 2004, 238 in 2005 and 25 till February 15 this year. And blue line buses injured 204 people in 2004, 286 in 2005 and 37 till February 15 this year.

Buses coming from other states injured 53 people in 2004, 22 the next year and had not yet caused any accident this year.

Private buses were also involved in maximum number of accidents in which no one was fortunately injured. Blue line buses came second in such a list while mini buses again figure at third.

Private buses were involved in 61 such accidents in 2004, 42 in 2005 and four till February this year. Blue line buses were involved in 16 such accidents in 2004, 25 in 2005 and two till this February.

Mini buses were involved in 14 such accidents in 2004, ten in 2005 and one till February this year.

Though schools buses were involved with the least amount of accidents but they still injured five people in 2005 and were responsible for one, two and one deaths, mostly school children, in 2004, 2005 and February this year, respectively.
