Pulse polio immunisation programme in Manipur today
Imphal, Apr 9 (Uni) Manipur government today launched the first phase of the pulse polio immunisation programme in the state.
State Health Minister L Nandakumar started a polio camp at Khurai in Imphal East.
He administered polio vaccines to children and appealed to make the programme a success to eradicate the disease completely.
State health officials said here about 3.50 lakh children between the age group of 0 to 5 were targetted this time.
About 4.44 lakh doses were required for the first phase. About 700 supervisors monitored the programme and 3,447 booths were opened..
The programme would continue for the next few days to reach the remote areas of the state. Health officials would be sent to those areas.
Health officials observed that the programme had been carried out at a war footing.
India is among the four nations in the entire world which had still not eradicated polio inspite of the massive PPI programmes.
The next phase of PPI in the state would be on May 21.
