Pulse polio drive begins

Bhopal, Apr 9 (UNI) Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme began today in Madhya Pradesh with lakhs of children below five years of age being administered polio drops.

Launching the campaign in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan administered oral polio vaccine to 13 children, including newly-born Gudia Tripathi, at his residence here as a part of nationwide pulse polio drive.

Mr Chouhan's wife Sadhna Singh also administered oral polio vaccine to children.

About 44,000 polio booths were set up across the state besides 1,350 mobile teams and 2,500 transit teams.

In the state capital, a target had been set up to administer drops to 3.40 lakh children at 1,323 booths.

District Collector Sanjay Shukla said public displayed lot of awareness during the pulse polio campaign this time.

Besides Self-help Groups (SHGs), nursing college and school students took special interest in the campaign and helped in administering polio drops to children.

The immunisation drive will conclude on May 21.
