PCI chairman calls for factual reporting on terrorism
Muzaffarnagar, Apr 9 (UNI) Appealing to the media to avoid colouring of news, especially by eschewing linking of terrorism to a particular religion, Press Council of India chairperson Justice G N Ray has called upon scribes to focus on factual and responsible reporting of the international scourge.
The PCI chairman after inaugurating the All India Newspaper Editors Conference (AINEC) here yesterday said that colour in reporting should never be practised while covering terrorist acts.
''The scribes shall neither sensationalise while reporting terrorism, nor should they link the global scourge with any particular religion or community,'' Justice Ray maintained.
When the entire world was burning in the blaze of terrorism, the media fraternity needed to work in a responsible manner, by striving for factual and objective reporting on the critical public issue.
Justice Ray also said that the PCI will alaways raise its voice against any attempt to undermine the freedom of the press in the country.
