Opposition to Narmada dam is unfair: Advani

Surat Apr 9 (UNI) BJP leader L K Advani has termed the opposition of Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar to the increase of heiht of the Sardar Sarovar project as ''unfair''.

Reacting to the environmental activist 's opposition to he project Mr Advani said, '' it was not fair to oppose the constrution of the dam. Construction of Sardar sarovar project is a great wish of the peple of Gujarat and it is not fair to oppose it.'' '' My opinion on the issue is clear and the verdict of the Supreme Court on the increase of the hight of the dam should be accepted by everyone,'' Mr Advani said addressing a press conference here today.

Ms Medha Patkar and Narmada Bachao Andolan have been opposing the recent decision to increase the height of the dam from 110.64 m to 121.90 m by the constuction authorities.

The apex court in a judgement in 2000 upheld that the dam could be constructed upto the height of 138 meters.

Ms Patkar had gone on hunger strike seeking the government intervention to halt the work of the dam till the rehabilitation of the victims is over.
