Militant activities rise before elections in Bengal

Siliguri, Apr 9 (UNI) Maoist rebels have intensifiead their anti-election campaign as they started postering and distributing leaflets to creat terror among the voters in this parts of North Bengal, intelligence inputs here said.

A report has been sent to the Union Home Ministry as well as the state government on the recent activities of the Maoists. The report said the '' Maoists are active in Kalchini, Birpara, Jalpaiguri, Rajgunj, Kotwaali, Banarhat, Hamiltongunj and Malbazar areas of Jalpaiguri district''.

''Maoists are organising meetings among the tribals in the tea gardens areas against coming assembly elections '', the report pointed out.

Police said that a group of the Maoist rebels from Midnapur reached here for the campaign.

'We are making some route maps'' for night patroling to trace out the rebels, said a police officer here, who was given the task to track down the ultras.

About 121 companies of para military force would be deployed in Jalpaiguri district, an area dominated by outlawed Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO).
