Match delayed due to wet ground

Guwahati, Apr 9 (UNI) The fifth one-dayer between India and England, at the Nehru Stadium here got delayed after a shower last night left the ground spongy.

Umpires V Jayprakash and Rudy Koertzen inspected the ground in the morning and decided to make another inspection at nine.

After making the inspection, Mr Koertzen said it was too early to say when the match will start as the ground was pretty slippery and muddy. He further added that an hourly inspection would be made and if the conditions improve the play will surely start.

His colleague A V Jayprakash said they will inform the two captains about the conditions and if they agree to play then a final decision would be taken by the duo.

Meanwhile, the conditions have improved with some sunshine filtering through.

BCCI Pitch Committee Member Prabir Mukherjee said with two hours of good sunshine the ground would dry out considerably for the match to commence.

India have already clinched the series 4-0.

India have played seven matches here with a 4-3 win record.
