New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) Supporting the Government move to reserve 27 per cent seats in central universities and institutions like the IITs and IIMs for OBCs,the Lok Jan Shakti Party today demanded that capitation fees in educational institutions be banned immediately.

"In the opinion of the LJP, admission into educational institutions on the basis of capitation fees amounts to playing with merit and reservation for the well-to-do students, " a resolution adopted at a meeting of the central office-bearers of the LJP, presided over by Union Minister and party president Ram Vilas Paswan, here today said.

According to a party release, the LJP expressed concern over the unnecessary controversy created over 27 per cent reservation to be given to the OBCs in educational institutions and said unless and until reservation was provided to the SCs, STs and OBCs, the Mandal Commission recommendations for reservation in Government jobs could not possibly be implemented.

Supporting the Government move to provide reservation to OBCs, the LJP urged the Union Government to incorporate reservation in all the educational institutions from primary standard and public schools along with other institutes.

The LJP demanded that a legislation on the reservation should be brought in the ensuing session of Parliament. It also appealed to the centre to restore the minority character of Aligarh Muslim University.
