Leprosy patients oppose Manipur's capitol project
Imphal, Apr 9 (UNI) People of Lei Ingkhol, mostly leprosy patients, have strongly opposed Manipur government's decision to evict them to construct the Capitol project, which will include the secretariat, high court and the assembly.
The leprosy patients were on a sit in protest to stop any move by the government to evict them.
A team of government officials went to the area to demolish some government buildings yesterday.
The situation was tense today in the area as most people came out in the streets to stop demolition work.
The protestors said they would not settle in any other place due to their health condition and the way the leprosy patients were ostracised by the society.
