Lakhs of students take IIT JEE test

New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) About 3 lakh students from all over the country sat for the Joint Entrance Examinations for 4,935 seats in the 7 IITs, the Banaras Hindu University and the Indian School of Mines today.

This was the first time in 7 years that the entrance test was done in one step, candidates having to answer three objective-type papers of two hours' duration each.

Of the total seats, nearly 4,000 are in the seven IITs alone.

The results will be declared on May 31 and medical examination and counselling done at the IIT Delhi on June 19.

As many as 1.98 lakh students had taken the test last year.
