INC candidate censured for violating model code of conduct

Guwahati, Apr 9(UNI) The Election Commission of India has censured Mr Chandan Sarkar of the Indian National Congress from 35-Abhayapuri south legislative assembly constituency for violating the model code of conduct.

Election offfice source here said that on a reference from the district election officer the Election Commission has taken the step.

The censure has been communicated in writing to Mr Sarkar.

Besides, two police cases have been registered against Mr Sarkar -one under IPC for using vehicles far in excess of the numbers permitted and second for use of siren and red light on cars in violation of motor vehicle act, the source added.
