Haryana govt sends reply to EC notice

Chandigarh, Apr 9 (UNI) The Haryana government has sent its reply to the Election Commission (EC) about the advertistments that appeared in newspapers on the Panipat elevated high project for which the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on April five.

''We have submitted a list to the EC of the newspapers in which the advertisments was placed'', an offical spokesman here today told UNI.

The spokesman said the advertiments that appeared in the newspapers on April five were placed in the Chandigarh and Delhi editions of these papers.

The EC had yesterday sought a reply from the Haryana Chief Secretary regarding the advertisments to ascertain whether these were in violation of the model code of conduct as assembly polls were being held in the states of Kerala, Pondicherry, Tamilnadu, West Bengal and Asom.As per the directions of the EC, the reply was sent by the state government yesterday before the deadline of 1700 hours.

The EC had issued the rejoinder to the Haryana government after the BJP submitted a memorandum to the EC that the advertisments in many newspapers on April five which read 'Aap ka Saath, Hamaara Prayas Hoga Vikas' was violative of the poll code of conduct.The BJP had pointed out that the advertisments had also appeared in newspapers circulated in the five states going to the polls, which might influence the voters.
