Govt agencies purchase 91 per cent wheat in Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 9 (UNI) The six government procuring agencies have purchased 3.31 lakh metric tonnes of wheat out of 3.59 lakh metric tonnes arrived in Haryana mandis till yesterday which was 91 per cent of the total arrival.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan here today said the Food and Supplies Department had procured 86,489 metric tonnes of wheat, Hafed 1.17 lakh metric tonnes, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 40,424 metric tonnes, Food Corporation of India 45,928 metric tonnes, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 18,409 metric tonnes and CONFED 22,619 metric tonnes.

The Deputy CM said that Karnal district stood first in procurement of wheat with 83,016 metric tonnes followed by Kaithal with 70,237 metric tonnes, Kurukshetra 57,407 metric tonnes, Fethabad 26,724 metric tonnes and Sirsa 25,296 metric tonnes of wheat.

Mr Chander Mohan said that state Government has arranged Rs 1,837 crore for the purchase of wheat.

He said that the State Government had fixed the share of wheat to be purchased by six procuring agencies.

He said that as many as 352 mandis had been set up in the State for the smooth procurement of wheat and a target of procurement of 42 lakh tonnes wheat had been fixed.
