EC clarifies on common symbol
Coimbatore, Apr 9 (UNI) There is no provision to allocate a common symbol to an unrecognised political party if it contests all the 234 Assembly seats in the state in the forthcoming polls, Election Commission secretary Villfert said today.
Talking to newspersons here he said the returning officer of the constituency will allocate the symbol to those candidates.
Earlier, the Election Commission secretary, under secretary Asis Chakravarthy, Chief Election Officer Naresh Gupta and joint commissioner Senthilkumar Pragadha held a meeting with the returning officers of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Namakkal and Krishnagiri districts.
Mr Naresh Gupta urged the election officials to ensure free and fair polling.
