Chamber expresses concern over proposed lorry strike in Kerala
Kochi, Apr 8 (UNI) The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry today expressed concern on the proposed strike by the contract carriage, trailers and lorry opertors in the state from tomorrow midnight.
Kerala being a consumer state, with all the commodities, including essential items, coming from other states, the strike will adversely affect normal life, the Chamber said in a statement here.
It said that the eight-day-long strike by container lorry workers at Cochin Port recently had already inficted a heavy loss on the exporters/importers using the port.
Another lorry strike will be a blow to the port users and will force them to divert the cargo to other ports. ''Considering the cumulative effect of the proposed strike on the state economy and normal life, we urge the Chief Minister to interfere in this matter and avoid the proposed strike,'' it added.
