CCL takes step to maintain a cleaner environment

Ranchi, Apr 9 (UNI) The Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) is taking up various steps for improvement in maintaining a cleaner environment by adopting pollution control measures and large scale afforestation.

It has adopted eco-friendly mining techniques of concurrent reclamation, thus maintaining ecological balance of the region, a ccl spokesman said.

Quarterly monitoring the air and water during 2005-06, total plantation was completed in 190 hectre area and about 4,76,475 saplings have been placed in a cost of about Rs 100 lakh, he added.

During 2006-07, the company plans to undertake afforestation on 188 hectares and 3.68 kms long road in which about 5,32,300 sapling of various species--Karanj, Mahua, Bamboo, Neem, Pipal, Gamhar and Sheesham would be planted at a cost of about Rs 152 lakhs, he said.

The company has also spent about Rs 65 crore on welfare measures under different heads including housing, water supply, colony road, education and medical facility during the year 2005-06, he added.
