Raigarh, Apr 9: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh today asserted that the BJP-ruled states would formulate legislation to check religious conversion which, he said, was becoming a serious problem in the tribal areas.

''If Christian missionaries want to serve the people, they are welcome. But we cannot tolerate any religious conversion by taking undue benefit of their poverty'', he said at a press conference during his 'Bharat Suraksha Yatra'.

Mr Singh said his party had already asked the states, ruled by it, to formulate laws to check such conversions. Rajasthan has already brought a legislation and other states will also follow suit.

Expressing serious concern over infiltration from Bangladesh, he alleged that an attempt was being made to change the country's demographic pattern.
