Bamboos to replace oranges gardens

Aizawl, Apr 9: The Mizoram government has chalked out various measures to replace imported variety of bamboos in the dying orange gardens across the state.

The orange plantation in the state have been affected by the blight resulting in poor or no harvest of orange crop during the past few years, official sources here today said.

High quality bamboo species plantation would be considered as a replacement for dying orange gardens, while the bamboo plants now are in the process of regeneration.

A decision would be soon taken on whether to cultivate local variety or imported bamboo species, the sources said adding the government is also working out the funding system for collecting the seeds.
