Vacancies in HCs will be filled within 6 months: Bharadwaj

Bangalore, Apr 8 (UNI) Union Law and Justice Minister H R Bharadwaj today said vacancies in various high courts in the country will be filled within six months.

Claiming that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre had filled 200 posts after coming to power, he said the number of judges would also be increased in due course.

Mr Bharadwaj was speaking at a function got up to felicitate 169 people, including 84 former Judges and 85 Advocates of the Karnataka High Court who have served the profession for more than 50 years, as part of the High Court Golden Jubilee celebrations here.

Stating that judiciary was the trend setter for democracy to flourish, Mr Bharadwaj said ''our job is to uphold the rule of law, we are committed to support the judiciary and strengthen it.'' He said the Centre was determined to see the Indian Judiciary recognised as one of the best in the world and Rs 1,000 crore had been earmarked for this.

Governor T N Chaturvedi, in his presidential address, said ''institutions are important, judges may come and go. It is important to recognise those who have served the institution.'' UNI MSP GD MSJ RAI2159
