Tribal sarpanch removed on toilet issue

Written by: Staff

Narsinghpur, MP, Apr 8 (UNI) A tribal woman sarpanch was removed through a non-confidence vote as she failed to construct a toilet in her house.

Ms Mangobai, Sarpanch of Chandankheda gram panchayat in Gotegaon block of Narsinghpur district, lost as 10 of the 13 panchas voted in favour of the no-confidence motion brought against her for allegedly ignoring the mandate and not constructing a toilet in her house. Tahsildar Shashwath Sharma was present during the voting, official sources said today.

Incidently, only two tribal families reside in the panchayat area and its members contested the election as the sarpanch's post was reserved for tribal woman.

A month ago, another tribal sarpanch, Govind of nearby Gortala panchayat, was removed by the Sub-Divisional Officer.
