Many devotees witness Vairamudi
Mysore, Apr 8: Thousands of devotees thronged to witness the 'Vairamudi' function held at Melakote, 40 km from here last night.
The Idol of lord Narayana, who is also known as Chellapillai, was taken in a procession after crowning the price less diamond studded "Vairamudi'. The procession went round the main through fares of this temple town situated on the banks of river cauvery.
'Vairamudi' was presented to the temple by late Maharaja of Mysore.
Earlier the crown and other jewels belonging to the temple was taken out from the District Treasury at Mandya Deputy Commissioner's office. Special poojas were offered before taking them to Melkote.
District Incharge Minister Chaluvarayaswamy also participated.
Elaborate bandobust was made under the supervision of District Superintendent of Police K V Sridhar.
