Sporting de Goa trounce Mohd Sporting 3-0

Mapusa, Goa, Apr 8 (UNI) A splendid hat-trick by Nigerian Dudu Omaghbhemi of local Sporting Club de Goa helped his team trounce Mohammedan Sporting 3-0 in the second leg of the ONGC Cup 10th National Football League championship being played here at Duler ground today.

Dudu, who completed his hat-trick in the 24th and 29th and 64th minutes, was adjudged man-of-the-match.

With this win, Sporting de Goa jumped up to the third spot in the championship with 19 points from 11 outings below table toppers East Bengal (21 points) and Mahindra United, Mumbai, (20 points). Mohun Bagan was now relegated to fourth place with 17 points.

Mohd Sporting, however, remained unchanged on the fifth place with 14 points from 12 outings.

The home team started with three good moves within a span of ten minutes, but faltered at a crucial juncture. Mohd Sporting, too, came with a couple of good moves in the 12th and 14th minutes once their striker Onkonji Patrick's power-packed shot was well saved by rival goalkeeper.

Sporting, who had upper hand right from the start, took time to settle down and surged ahead in the 24th minutes of the first half through their ace striker Dudu Omaghbhemi, who after collecting a pass from the right flank from Nicholas Rodrigues, banged into the goal to make it 1-0.

The Goan outfit increased their lead in the 29th minute again through Dudu, who after receiving a pass from Nicholau Borgues, unleashed a full-blooded shot which kissed rival defender David's leg and defelcted into the goal 2-0.

Inspired by two goals lead at the breather, the home team continued their attack. Dudu completed his hat-trick in the 64th minute from a fine pass from the left flank again by Borgues, unleashing a shot which hit the right goal post and deflected towards him, but in the second attempt he made no mistake to make it 3-0.

The Kolkata outfit made some desperate attempts to reduce the margin towards the close of the play, but the home team's defence stood their ground.
