Prasar Bharati earns Rs 1,238 crore during 2005-06 : CEO

Hyderabad, Apr 8 (UNI) Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer K S Sarma today said the corporation, for the first time in its history, had earned Rs 1,238 crore during 2005-06, registering a 48.89 per cent revenue rise over the previous year.

Mr Sarma told reporters that Doordarshan earned gross revenue of Rs 968 crore, up from Rs 670.44 crore, registering an increase of 44.38 per cent compared to last year. All India Radio (AIR) recorded a notable performance, ending the year with Rs 270 crore as against Rs 161.03 crore during 2004-05, an unprecedented growth rate of 67.67 per cent.

Stating that the Corporation earned Rs 200 crore from Cricket telecast out of Rs 1238 crore during this year, he said Prasar Bharati had targeted Rs 1500 crore, in which Doordarshan and AIR would have Rs 1100 crore and Rs 400 crore target respectively during 2006-07.

Mr Sarma said the coporation earned Rs 200 crore from the Centre through development communication and Rs 100 crore from all state governments by telecasting health, education and other awareness programmes in Doordarshan and AIR channels.
