Notorious criminal killed, cop injured in encounter

Purnea, Apr 8 (UNI) A notorious criminal was killed and a police officer sustained injuries in an encounter at Marnga village under Kabaiya police station area in the district today.

District police superintendent B N Jha said acting on a tip-off, a team of local police raided the hideout where the anti-socials opened fire on cops.

Police personnel had to fire in self-defence resulting in death of notorious criminal Rajessh Yadav. Two of his associates managed to escape from the spot.

The deceased was wanted by police for long in connection with several cases, including murder, loot, kidnapping and extortions.

Officer-in-charge of the local police station, Sanjay Jha sustained injuries in the encounter and had been admitted to a local hospital.

Raids were being conducted at different hideouts in the district to nab the associates of the killed gangster, he added.
