NERIST Technofest to showcase NE technical education
Itanagar, Apr 8 (UNI) The two-day first ever technical festival of the Northeast region hosted by the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) got off to a flying start here yesterday.
As many as six technical institutions of the region, including IIT, Guwahati, NIT Silchar, Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic College, Itanagar, Jorhat Polytechnic College, Assam Engineering College and Assam Polytechnic College, are participating in the meet.
The two-day mega event also boasts of six equal numbers of engineering disciplines, including agriculture engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering and forestry.
After inaugurating the programme, director of the institute Prof, K Kumar said the festival was long overdue and it was an event dedicated to creativity and innovativeness of the students.
He also said the institute was grateful to state governor and NERIST Society chairman S K Singh for his support to make the festival a successful one. Citing ill health as reason for the inability of the governor to attend the function, he however, read out the message of the first citizen of the state.
The message said the institute was holding the first Technical Festival to enable it to showcase the capability of innovation and invention by the young and talented technologists belonging to both the faculty and the student body.
He hoped that the festival dedicated to technology would provide the graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to learn the joy that can be desired from innovating and inventing.
Festival's chief coordinator Pradeep Lingpha said the festival was aimed to enhance technical transparency and know how among aspiring students of the country and to develop the thrill of learning among students who consequently would assist them in honing their skills and preparing them to get moulded in the technical and scientific world.
The festival would showcase various talents of the students through various competitions and events.
Attractive and intriguing stalls have been put up to delight the students and audiences and to enable them to examine their sense of probity.
