Mulayam govt failed to control law and order: Shakeel Ahmed
Lucknow, Apr 8 (UNI) Terming the situation in Uttar Pradesh ''critical,'' senior Congress leader and Union Minister of state for Telecommunication Shakeel Ahmed today said the Mulayam Singh Yadav government has failed on the law and order front.
''The communal riots in Aligarh and recent communal clashes in other parts of UP followed by rise in terrorist attacks proves the failure of the state government,'' he alleged.
Talking to mediapersons here, Ahmed clarified the Centre was keeping a close watch on the UP situation and would take ''appropriate action at the right time.'' Without disclosing the nature of action, he said the centre was serious on the law and order sitution in UP and was keeping all its options open.
Commenting on the rise of terrorist activities in UP in recent times and the attack on Sankat Mochan temple at Varanasi on March 7, the Minister said the centre had already announced its support to the state in controlling the situation.
Reacting to the Aligarh riots, the Congress leader from Bihar maintained no politics should be played over the issue and the state government must take strict step to control the situation.
